Established in 1911, the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra is Japan’s oldest orchestra. Comprising around 140 members, it holds regular concerts and accompanies ballet and opera productions at venues such as the New National Theatre, Tokyo as well as performs concerts for broadcast, educational programs, and overseas concerts. It has performed at Bunkamura Orchard Hall as a partner hall since 1989 as well as at other venues in Tokyo, Chiba, Karuizawa, and Nagaoka. Its current honorary conductor laureate is Myung-Whun Chung, special guest conductor is Mikhail Pletnev, and principal guest conductor is Andrea Battistoni. The chairman is Hiroshi Mikitani, Chairman and CEO of Rakuten.
