Born in 1931 in Tokyo. Shuntaro Tanigawa published his first collection of poetry in 1952. His subsequent collections have won him many awards, along with his adaptation of the Mother Goose stories. In addition to his poetry, he is also an essayist, translator, scriptwriter, lyricist and picture book author. He continues to explore new possibilities for poetry in the modern world, recently creating an iPhone app for “fishing” for poetry and a service for sending poems by mail.
